It can be useful every so often to do a mental and emotional check up, to figure out if we are at a place in our lives that is fulfilling and making us happy. When we live a life that is not really for us, it can result in both physical and emotional distress. The more we push down or try to ignore our dissatisfaction the more the unconscious signals to us that things are not right. It’s like trying to force a square peg into a round hole
If you feel ready for your “check up” Ask yourself the following questions about your current life situation.
Am I constantly having to convince myself that things will get better or change?
Am I doing this because it is expected of me?
Was I encouraged to follow this path to please someone else?
Is what I am planning to do perceived as the natural next step?
If I close my eyes and imagine this as my future, does it make me smile?
If I wasn’t worried about what other people would think, is there something else that would make me happier?
After answering these questions you might be closer to understanding whether you are living the best life for you.
Not every day is perfect, but if you regularly have to convince yourself that the situation you are in is where you must be, rather than where you want to be, maybe its time for that check up.
You may have recognized that you want to make a change, but feel you have no choice. I challenge you, there is always a choice. It’s not always what you were expecting or you may not have even thought of it yet, however there is always another way. When you start to focus on what you want it will become clearer.
One more question that I ask myself and others regularly.
What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
